Global Design Project: GDP301 Color Challenge

We have a great color challenge this week at Global Design Project.

Stampin' Up! is trying something a little different and having a second Sale-A-Bration in August. I know...right! So here is a little sneak peek of one of the stamp sets that you will be able to earn for free with a $100 purchase (USD). It is called Delicate Dahlias (#156601) and it is a wonderful set. It can be used in so many different ways, but here I stamped the photo-realistic flower in Polished Pink and then stamped the matching outline in black. I can really see this color combo used in so many different ways, but I really was excited about making a card with this new stamp set, so I had to give it a go.

I don't necessarily love fussy-cutting, but when the end results are so stunning, then I don't mind the extra effort. Honestly, the images are fairly easy to cut by hand with scissors.

I used the Stitched Greenery die (#155451) to create this subtle, yet beautiful background for the base and then just added on layer after layer of beautiful flowers and greenery...and the pearls are the perfect finishing touch!

I really think this is going to be a favorite set during Sale-A-Bration. It will be available beginning August 3, 2021.

Global Design Project: GDP300 CASE Challenge

This week at Global Design Project, we are CASEing this amazing card by the talented Steffi Helmschrott. I must tell you that this card is way out of my comfort zone and style, but I really did enjoy trying something new.

Steffi has a great video tutorial for this card, however, it is in German. She does a great job showing how she made her card, but a few things do seem to get lost in the translation. I had to contact Steffi and ask what is "Seidenglanz"? Turns out Google Translate doesn't do a good job translating to "Shimmery White Cardstock". Other than that, I had no problems understanding her technique.

I decided to try to be as true as possible to Steffi's card, but of course, I didn't want to make an exact copy, so for the background, I used Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, and Real Red ink. Next, I substituted a flower cluster from the Artistic die set (#155371) for the butterfly.

I needed to make a belated graduation card for a friend's daughter, so I used the "Congratulations" from the Art Gallery Stamp Set (#158201). In my first attempt, I heat embossed the sentiment in white on Basic Black cardstock, but I didn't like it, so I ended up doing it over on the same woodgrain DSP that I used for the background layer (In Good Taste DSP, #152949).

I mounted the panel on some Crumb Cake cardstock and used some Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#150457) for some added sparkle. In the end, I hope I did justice to the original card, but most importantly I had fun.

Global Design Project: GDP298 Sketch Challenge

It's time for our sketch challenge this week at Global Design Project.

This sketch really leaves things wide open for interpretation...which I love! I chose to stamp the background in the lower-left corner with the Daisy Garden Background Stamp (#155079) and then color with my Stampin' Blends. I used Old Olive and Mossy Meadow for the leaves, Daffodil Delight for the flower centers, and Pool Party for the background. White daisies can be a bit of a challenge, but if you use Smoky Slate to add a little bit of shading, it really pulls everything together.

To add even more depth to the sky, I used our new Blending Brushes (#153611) and blended Pool Party ink around the top and right edges of the stamped panel.

I stamped the word "thanks" from the Artistically Inked Stamp Set (#154542) in Mossy Meadow ink and fussy cut it by hand and backed it with a piece of Bumblebee paper from the Pansy Petals Designer Series Collection (#155807).

Finally, I added a few Coastal Cabana rhinestones from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#150457).

Global Design Project: GDP297 Color Challenge

This week's challenge at Global Design Project is perfect for florals.

I really like this color combo when used with the Art Gallery Stamp Set (#158201). If you get creative, you can turn the large flower into an even bigger one by layering it in different directions. For these beautiful blooms, I used three layers. I also used two of the small flowers to make the medium size flower for the card on the right. The end result reminds me of carnations or maybe even peonies.

This card, in particular, has a lot of layers resulting in a lot of thickness. The white panel is layered on the base with a Foam Adhesive Sheet (#152815). The small strip of Fresh Freesia In-color DSP (#155641) is leftover from an earlier project. The sentiments on both cards are from the Biggest Wish Stamp Set (#155052) and stamped with Blackberry Bliss ink.

This closeup gives you a better look at all the layers.

Fresh Freesia has a pink undertone, so it works well with the Blackberry Bliss. Also, if you don't have Pear Pizzazz ink, I think that Granny Apple Green or even Old Olive would work well as a substitute.

I had enough flowers stamped to make a second card, so I went with something a little more traditional and simple.

I didn't have any Pear Pizzazz DSP, so I used one of the stamps from the set to create a tone-on-tone background. It was almost too pretty to cover up, but I think enough of it shows to add a little something special to the card base. I added a twine bow to the stem and a few sequins from the Expressions in Ink Ephemera Pack (#155465) to both cards.

Global Design Project Theme Challenge: GDP295

It's time for our theme challenge at Global Design Project. Realistically, I don't know if I can call this a challenge, considering practically every card I make fits into this category...lol :)

Whether your style is trendy or traditional, the Hand-penned Petals stamp set (#155492) has a broad appeal and it is perfect for this week's challenge. For both cards I heat embossed the flowers with gold embossing powder on watercolor paper and then used ink refills and a water brush to color the images. I used Fresh Freesia, Bumble Bee, and Pear Pizzazz.

For this first card I wanted to create something a little more trendy, so I sponged VersaMark ink over one of the new stencils from the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks (#155553), heat embossed it with Heat & Stick Powder (#154317) and then added Gilded Leafing (#154561).

To finish off the card I added a few sequins and a pre-cut foil piece from the Expressions in Ink Ephemera Pack (#155465).

This next card is a little more traditional. I used some Fresh Freesia paper from the In Color DSP Assortment (#155641) for the base of the card. Then I cut a rectangle from white cardstock using the Stitched Rectangles dies (#151820) and layered on three sets of flowers. (Note: I cut one of the flower assortments into two pieces and placed them beneath the others for a fuller look.) Finally, I stamped and fussy cut the word "hello" for both cards using the new Biggest Wish stamp set. (#155052)

Global Design Project: GDP294 Sketch Challenge

It's time for our sketch challenge at Global Design Project.

I really struggled with this one until I stopped taking it literally and went with something a little more abstract. When I looked at the original design I knew it was not really my style...so I decided to make it work for me. Instead of those diagonal panels, I used two die-cut springs of greenery...and that made all the difference.

I guess I should back up a bit and start with things in order of layers. I used a Bermuda Bay card base and added a piece of white cardstock that I ran through the embossing machine using the new Stitched Greenery Die (#155451). Next, I die-cut two springs using Mossy Meadow cardstock and the new Artistic Dies (#155371) being extra careful to leave all those intricate pieces intact. At this point, I knew it was missing something, so I added some flowers that I already had premade from an earlier project using the Pierced Blooms Dies.

I stamped the "thanks" from the Artistically Inked stamp set (#154542) in Mossy Meadow ink and used my electronic cutter to cut it. Finally, I added a few sequins from the Expressions in Ink Ephemera Pack (#155465).

Global Design Project: GDP293 Color Challenge

This week's challenge at Global Design Project uses some of our beautiful new In-Colors for 2021-2023.

I used an Evening Evergreen Ombre Gift Bag (#155479) backed with an adhesive sheet to create an easy and beautiful background for this card. The flowers/leaves are from the Timeless Tropical stamp set (#151497) and stamped in Pale Papaya/Evening Evergreen inks. I used Pale Papaya Stampin' Blends to color the flowers and Soft Succulent Blends for the leaves.

 

I added a white floral spray die cut with the Penned Flowers dies (#155557). The word "aloha" is from the In The Tropics die set (#151495) and is designed to coordinate with the Timeless Tropical stamp set (#151497). I cut it once with Evening Evergreen cardstock and twice with Whisper White cardstock and then layered them together to create a more substantial embellishment.

 

A few Genial Gems (#155500) add the perfect finishing touch to the card.

Global Design Project: GDP292 CASE Challenge

This week at Global Design Project, we are CASEing this lovely card by my talented friend, Susan Wong. Susan's card is so pretty, and you know how much I love flowers, so finding inspiration was a breeze.

There really isn't much stamping on my card. I used the same sentiment that Susan used from the Hydrangea Haven Stamp Set (#158210) stamped in Bermuda Bay ink.  The main focus of this card is the flowers. I used the Pierced Blooms Dies (#154312) to create a bunch of flowers. Then I spent around an hour assembling different color combinations. You can fit all the flowers from this die set onto a 5.5"x4.25" piece of cardstock, so I cut each flower once from these colors (So Saffron/Calypso Coral, Flirty Flamingo/Daffodil Delight, and Pool Party/Bermuda Bay). I then cut several sets of leaves from Granny Apple Green and Old Olive cardstock.

I love that Susan used twine on her card because that is exactly what I would have done. Also, the die I used for the tag (Stitched Rectangles #151820) was a bit too short, so I used the partial die-cutting technique to cut part of the tag, moved the die, and then cut the rest of the tag.

The stripes on this DSP are the perfect partner to all those amazing flowers. It is from the Pattern Party 12"x12" DSP (Host Reward #155426). I love how it picks up all the different colors and coordinates perfectly.

But wait, there's more. Look at what you get if you flip this beautiful paper over to the other side...

I absolutely love how the bright flowers pop on the black background. This is the exact same card (with a few tweaks of course) but it has a completely different look. I chose the first card as my CASE because of the soft pastel colors, but honestly, I love them both.
