Our theme this week at Global Design Project is flowers. I rarely pass up an opportunity to use flowers on my cards and this week is no exception.
There's a new Stampin' Up! annual catalog right around the corner and SU demonstrators are able to purchase several items ahead of the new product launch. We have some really pretty flower sets coming soon and one of my favorites is the Hues of Happiness Suite (#158828). From the beautiful imagery to the simply gorgeous designer series paper, this suite has it all. All of the flowers in the stamp set have matching dies so that you can help keep fussy cutting to a minimum. A few of the dies even work with some of the flowers/leaves in the coordinating designer series paper, which is an added bonus!
I really enjoyed working with this suite, along with a few other items from the upcoming catalog. The background paper on these cards is from a new Host Reward, Design a Daydream 12" x 12" DSP (#159161). I love how some of the colors and patterns pair well with the Hues of Happiness DSP (#158822).
Before I began designing, I spent about an hour die-cutting several of the flowers and leaves from the paper. Two of the sheets work great with the dies but some of the other papers require fussy cutting. Now I have a bag of flowers that I can use when I am in a hurry.
To make the frames on both cards, I covered a piece of scrap cardstock with an adhesive sheet (#152334) and then covered it with gilded leafing (#154560). Once the cardstock was fully covered, I burnished the foil onto the sheet and then brushed away the excess. I used the Stitched Rectangles Dies to cut several frames. Because the dies "nest", it is easy to make several different sizes without any waste. I used the largest frame on the Petal Pink card and the next two smaller frames on the Old Olive card.
I love how the stitched detail on the frames work together to create an even more elaborate design when doubled. I also heat embossed the greeting from the Happiness Abounds stamp set (#159238) with gold embossing powder on Gorgeous Grape cardstock.
Notice how I tucked several of the flowers beneath the frame on this card. This is a great way to use up some of the edge pieces from the paper so practically nothing goes to waste.
Finally, I used some of the Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#158130) to add just a little sparkle to the finished cards.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fun challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
