We have a new color challenge this week at the Global Design Project project blog.
I know some amazing stampers who rock these lovely colors on a regular basis, but this color combo is a little out of my comfort zone. I actually think these are perfect Christmas colors (i.e. snowflakes), and apparently some of the other GDP team members agree. However, I don't have any current snowflake stamps in my stash, so I went with florals instead.
I started with a Misty Moonlight card base and then added a layer of Balmy Blue and Whisper White die cut with the Best Plaid Dies (#152720). I have been wanting to try out this die set for a while, so why not now? It may seem a bit pricey, but it actually consists of two full-size dies, therefore it is really good value. I also have some other ideas on how to use it, so watch for those in the near future.
The flowers and feathers in the Tasteful Touches stamp set (#152562) are so lovely. They are red rubber cling stamps and produce wonderful images. Sadly, there isn't a die that coordinates with either image, so I had to do some fussy cutting. I think the images are fairly basic and easy to cut by hand. I really like how this card turned and I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a class, but you know me...I have to step-up everything and this card is no exception.
This is basically the same card but on steroids! I added more layers and as well as some silver glimmer foilage cut with the Forever Flourishing dies (#152714). I didn't decide to create a new version of this card until late last night, so if the photography seems a little different, it is because the first card was shot in the afternoon and the stepped-up version was photographed this morning. Thus, I am a little late getting this posted on my blog. Thankfully, today is Labor Day here in the U.S. and I don't have to work.
I really like both versions of this card, so it really comes down to personal preference and how much time you want to spend on your creations.
Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this great color challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog. Also, if you try this new technique, send me a link to the finished project...I would love to see it!
