It is sketch week at Global Design Project and you know how much I love a good sketch. This one can be as fancy or clean & simple depending on the products you use. I have said this time and time again, but it is something that needs to be repeated...a sketch is a guideline or a starting point...what you do with it is completely up to you. This card is the perfect example. I chose to replace the background layer with a design element. It serves the same purpose, but it brings a fresh perspective to the design. For my card, I used the All Things Fabulous Bundle (#154112). This three-step floral stamp set and coordinating dies may seem a little intimidating at first, but once you wrap your head around the idea of using multiple stamps to create each flower, great results are very attainable for stampers at any skill level.
The die set includes this beautiful, intricate design element. I started with a Sahara Sand card base and then die cut three of the elements from the same color as the card base. This gives the card an elegant tone-on-tone background without overpowering the rest of the card. HERE'S A TIP: use an adhesive sheet (#152334) on the back of the cardstock before you die cut the elements. This makes applying the three pieces to the card so much easier and you get an even application of adhesive without the mess of liquid glue.
Next, I stamped the sentiment with Soft Suede ink and die cut it using the Stitched Rectangle Dies (#151820). I tucked a piece of Cinnamon Cider In Color Ribbon (#152482) behind it to help draw your eye to the focal point. This ribbon is lightweight and a perfect addition to your cards. TIP: I quickly used a Heat Tool to seal the ends of the ribbon and help prevent fraying.
The flower layers are stamped largest to smallest with So Saffron, Bumblebee, and Cinnamon Cider ink. The leaves are stamped with Mossy Meadow ink and die cut with the coordinating dies.
Dimensional adhesive gives the sentiment and flowers a lift and a few gold Metallic Pearls (#146282) add a soft and elegant touch.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fun challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
