The theme for this week's challenge at Global Design Project is Floral. I had so much going on this weekend, but I dropped everything to make a card for this challenge.
The new Stampin' Up! 2020-2021 Annual Catalog goes live in just a few days (June 3, 2020). There are so many beautiful new stamp sets and products in the new catalog, but one of my favorites is the Flowers for Every Season Suite. I adore flowers and this suite is packed with my favorite...sunflowers.
I wanted this card to look like farmhouse pallet art. This design requires a lot of masking, so I did a test run on a piece of scrap paper before finalizing the layout. Once I liked the design, I stamped the large sunflower from Celebrate Sunflowers (#152517) on a piece of woodgrain paper from the In Good Taste DSP (#152494). I knew I was going to color with Stampin' Blends, so I stamped everything with Memento Ink. Next, I masked the large sunflower and then stamped the smaller sunflower from the set once on each side and masked those as well. Then I used the sunflower cluster from Jar of Flowers (#152515) to complete the design.
After the flowers were stamped, I used a wide variety of Stampin' Blends to color the images. (Daffodil Delight, Pineapple Punch, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Bronze, Ivory, and Mossy Meadow.) Just a note of caution, DSP is a little more challenging to color with Stampin' Blends, so take your time and slowly build the color.
(TIP: The coloring was a lengthy process, so I was hesitant to cut the paper and stamp the greeting. Therefore, I made a copy of it with my 4-in-1 desktop printer and experimented with it first. Once I was confident that I liked the design, I moved forward with my original artwork. I also used a Stamparatus to make sure the placement of the sentiment was perfect.)
I cut the DSP into 1" strips and sponged Soft Suede ink lightly between the slats and more heavily around the outside edges. (I learned that I should have sponged the ink on the outside edges first, cut the slats, and then sponge the inner edges.) Finally, I flicked some Crumb Cake ink splatters onto the card and added some linen thread. Then I mounted everything on an Early Espresso card base. This card is probably one of my more advanced designs, so it is probably better for experienced, avid stampers than beginners.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fabulous challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
