The theme for this week's challenge at Global Design Project is Celebration.
I feel like I failed this challenge. I honestly was working on samples for my upcoming team meeting and needed a card for GDP, so I added the appropriate sentiment and called it done! Sorry!
I am really trying to keep my head above water when it comes to stamping. Now that I work full-time, I have to find ways to use my time more efficiently. If this card looks familiar, it is because it is a CASE of the new Spring Mini Catalog. I typically don't share CASEd projects on my blog, but this card was different enough that I decided to go ahead. I simply adore the Botanical Prints Product Medley (#151301) and I wanted to make the card exactly like it is on page 61 of the catalog. Sadly, the concept artist who made this card must have been working with a prototype and the laser-cut paper that comes in the kit does not have the nice 1/2" border like shown in the catalog. Therefore, it is literally impossible to CASE it exactly. So I decided to mix it up a little and try a piece of the DSP from the kit instead. The effect is nice but definitely not the same. I kept the same layout however and customized a few other elements as well.
For starters, I colored in the banner piece with Stampin' Blends instead of leaving it black and white. (TIP: to create Crushed Curry I colored the images with a Light Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends and then used Daffodil Delight over it. Also, to color the more intricate stems, I used a Mossy Meadow Stampin' Write Marker because the tip is much finer and the ink doesn't bleed.) I was curious as to what I could do once the labels and die-cut floral pieces were used up, so I stamped and cut my own floral pieces with the stamps and coordinating dies that come with the kit. I have to tell you that while I love all the beautiful accessories that are included in this product medley, I definitely love the stamp set/dies all on their own.
I also mentioned that I used a different sentiment to meet this week's challenge. The word "Congratulations" is from the First Frost stamp set and die cut with the Stitched Rectangles dies.
As a little bonus, I also CASEd the box on the same page (pg. 61) of the Spring catalog. I turned it into a 5"x5" card. All I can say is WOW! I don't take any credit for this project because that goes to the amazing concept artists at Stampin' Up! All I did was give it a few little tweaks to make it more my style.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fun challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
