This week at the Global Design Project challenge blog we are CASEing this vibrant card made by my talented friend, Charlet Mallett. Here's what I see when I look at Charlet's card...a bold Pineapple Punch side panel, a Whisper White card base, and hints of Coastal Cabanna and Real Red.
This one had me stumped a little. With one annual catalog ending today and a brand new one starting tomorrow, I didn't want to use too many retiring products. Today is the last day to purchase the Gingham Gala DSP, but you will be able to get something similar in the new catalog. Other than that, you will be able to get the supplies for this card without any problems.
The flowers are from the Tea Together stamp set (#148779) and coordinating Tea Time die set (#149697). I stamped them on Whisper White cardstock with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. I colored the flowers with Stampin' Blends Markers. First, I put down a layer of Light Daffodil Delight, then added Dark Daffodil Delight to the shadows. Then I added in some Dark Pineapple Punch and went over it again with Light Daffodil Delight. The leaves are colored with the Pool Park combo. The small flowers are colored with the Real Red marker combo with a touch of Cherry Cobber. For everything I went back in and added some additional shading with dry watercolor pencils in Daffodil Delight, Real Red, and Bermuda Bay.
The floating die cut technique is really popular right now, so I decided give it a try with this card. I have used a similar technique before without the dimensionals, but I really like this look. Mini pearls are perfect to fill in where needed.
The sentiment is from the new Bloom & Grow stamp set (#149229) and the leaves are cut and embossed in Pool Party and Bermuda Bay cardstock with Nature's Roots dies (#146341).
Sometimes I make cards that end up not making the cut. I usually don't show them on my blog, but this one I think was worth mentioning. I had originally covered the entire card front with the Gingham Gala dsp. I also used more leaves on that card. I really loved how it looked and almost used it, but, I didn't think it was as true to Charlet's original card and it was a tad too busy so I ended up reworking it.
