Global Design Project #GDP177: Color Challenge

We have a fabulous color combo this week at the Global Design Project. This one gets filed under my favorites because it is amazing.

For my card I used the beautiful hibiscus from the Humming Along Bundle (#150621). I stamped the flower with VersaMark ink on watercolor paper and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I used ink refills along with an AquaPainter to color the images. I wet the images first and then just dropped the color into the flower with the brush and let it spread out randomly for a great effect.

I also die cut a watercolor paper panel with the Stitched Rectangle Dies and added some splatters of Coastal Cabana ink. I trimmed the panel with Basic Black cardstock and mounted it on a top-folding card base.

The sentiment is from the same stamp set and stamped in Jet Black StazOn Ink.

Finally, I added a small die cut butterfly to draw the eye into the top left corner and give emphasis to the sentiment.

Global Design Project #GDP176: CASE Challenge

This week at the Global Design Project challenge blog we are CASEing this colorful card by Steffi Helmschrott. Here's what I see when I look at Steffi's card...a bright, watercolored background with repeating elements and a simple greeting heat embossed in white on black cardstock.

I used the same rainbow color pallet along with ink refills and an AquaPainter to color on watercolor paper. I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, and Pacific Point ink. After the paper was dry I added water droplets and used a paper towel to pick up the drops.  Honestly, it looked somewhat ugly at that point and I wasn't sure if I should continue, but I decided to see it through to the end. After the watercolor paper had completely dried, I moved on to the next step.

Something wonderful happened when I die cut the paper with the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Die (#148536)...the end result was gorgeous! Even though I die cut both the base and the overlay, I ended up only using the thicker of the two butterfly plates because it really showcases the beautiful design of the paper.

I mounted the butterflies on a watercolor paper card base with mini glue dots. Next, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the Amazing Life stamp set (#148750). 

Typically I would finish out this card by adding sequins, but instead, I used the remnants from the watercolored paper and some of the smaller dies in the set to cut additional embellishments. I love that they are a perfect match. This card may look difficult, but in reality it came together very quickly. You should really give it a try.

Global Design Project #GDP175: Theme Challenge

Our challenge this week at Global Design Project is Down the Garden Path. I couldn't help but think "this is easy...practically every card I make fits into this category"! LOL

I used three of my favorite products from the 2019 Occasions Catalog. I started with a Grapefruit Grove cardstock and added a layer of Grapefruit Grove Gingham Gala DSP (#148554)...favorite product number one! Next, I die cut a frame from Thick Whisper White cardstock using the new Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies (#148551)...favorite product number two! Finally, I stamped, colored, and die cut flowers from the Climbing Roses Bundle (#150603)...favorite product number three!

I borrowed the "hello" sentiment from the Beauty Abounds stamp set (#148726) and then die cut it using the tag from the Wood Crate Framelits (AC #143730). I also tucked in some Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins (AC#146933) and used a strand of the Whisper White 5/8" Flax Ribbon (#148764) to attach the tag to the frame.

Here is a quick look at how I colored the flowers. I started by laying down a color wash with the Light Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends Marker for the roses and Old Olive for the leaves. Then I added shading by using the coordinating colors of Watercolor Pencils (AC#141709). I used the pencils dry to lay down a light layer of color and then built the color until I achieved enough shading. I love this method because it allows better control of the shading, especially on small images. You can even erase your mistakes if you get too heavy-handed.
