Sunshine & Rainbows Artisan Blog Hop

Welcome to another Artisan Design Team Blog Hop. On this hop, we are focusing on the Sunshine and Rainbows Suite.  I must admit, I am not much of a rainbows and unicorns kinda gal, so I had to dig deep to find motivation.  I kept coming back to making a side-step card. I love how it gives depth to the clouds.

 

This was my first side-step card and it was much easier to make than I thought it would be. I started with a base of Pool Party cardstock, then it was just a matter of die-cutting clouds from Whisper White and Silver Glimmer paper using the Rainbow Builder Framelits Dies. I also used the rainbow dies to create the  colorful rainbow.

 

The sentiment is from the Sunshine & Rainbows stamp set and stamped in Real Red ink.

 

I felt like the front panel needed to be grounded, so I added a strip of washi tape from the Basics Pack 2 Washi  Tape Collection. The yellow washi helps create a visual triangle on the card as well.

Global Design Project #GDP134: Sketch Challenge

It's time for another great sketch challenge this week at Global Design Project.

So right about now you are probably wondering when my style shifted to Clean and Simple. The answer is simple. When I went back to work last year I found myself moving more toward CAS on my stamping/paper crafting projects...especially when I have really hectic things going on in my life. I was a stay-at-home homeschooling mom for almost twelve years, so I could literally spend hours designing/making one card. Now, I typically have one day to myself, but if something comes along which interrupts my schedule, then my GDP projects are the first thing to become simplified. I have tried to remain true when it comes to my Artisan Design Team projects, however, so that is why you may notice the difference in styles. I don't have a contract with Global Design Project and no one is making me participate, but I love being on the GDP design team and I hate to miss a week if I can help it. So that leads me to today's project. It may look CAS, but there is a little more to it than meets the eye.

How on earth did I get such perfect placement on those sequins? I made a stencil with the Rainbow Builder Framelits Dies. I started with the second from the largest rainbow and then got smaller. I decided where the rainbow would fall on the page and then before I did anything else, I stamped the greeting from the Sunshine & Rainbows photopolymer stamp set in Melon Mambo ink.

After the greeting was stamped, I moved on to creating the rainbow. I love these Tutti-frutti Adhesive-Backed Sequins. It literally only took a few minutes to place the sequins. If you don't have the Rainbow Builders framelits to create a template, you can also use a circle die as a guide.

 

I decided to leave off the additional elements of the card and let the beauty of the sequins take center stage.

Share What You Love - Stampin' Up! Artisan Blog Hop

 

Welcome to very special Artisan Design Team Blog Hop. Today we are promoting the new Share What You Love Suite. Half of the team is sharing projects made with the Just Getting Started Bundle, while the other half of the team is sharing the Gotta Have It All bundle. My projects are made with the Just Getting Started Bundle and are designed with the new crafter in mind. This bundle includes: the Love What You Do Stamp Set, Grapefruit Grove Ink Pad, Old Olive Ink Pad, Very Vanilla 8-1/2 X 11” Cardstock, Very Vanilla Note Cards & Envelopes, and a Clear Block E. I have been a demonstrator for 18 years, so I have to admit, making projects with only the items in the above kit was a bit of an exercise for me, but it was also fun. We were allowed to use a paper cutter, scissors, adhesive, and dimensionals, so that was a big help. With the limited supplies, I had to fall back on some basic stamping techniques on my projects.

This card was made by stamping the dot from the Love What You Do stamp set included in the kit. This stamp set is amazing and has beautiful images and sentiments. There are two stamp pads included in the bundle: Old Olive and the new In-Color, Grapefruit Grove. Did you notice the new design on the stamp pads? The new case design is slightly smaller and made to easily stack...that way you have more room on your stamp table...and who doesn't need more space? I stamped the medium size background stamp several times around the edges of a Very Vanilla cardstock square to create a panel to place behind the sentiment.

 

For this next card I used the direct-to-paper technique and dragged an Old Olive stamp pad across the card base. For the panel, I stamped the leaves in full strength and then again to achieve the lighter color leaves. This technique is called "stamping off" and it gives you more versatility with your stamp pads.

For my last card I stamped the small floral cluster from the set several times along the edge of the card base. The top panel is narrower and offset to one side.

Finally, to mix things up a bit, I created a bag-a-lope using the free envelopes included in the kit. I used the direct-to-paper technique to color some cardstock and then cut thin strips to create my own shreddies.

Global Design Project #GDP133: Color Challenge

It has been a very busy weekend with OnStage Local events for Stampin' Up! demonstrators. I am excited to be back home and full of inspiration for this week's Global Design Project color challenge.

While I was in Atlanta, my friend, Monika Davis asked me to be a guest speaker at her OnStage After Party event. My topic was "Creating Great Masculine Cards". (I don't share a lot of masculine cards on my blog, so I thought it was funny that this was our theme). This particular challenge is the perfect color combo for a guy card, so I used it to create my sample for her event. My dad's birthday is coming up soon, too, so I knew I just had to make a card for him. Don't you love it when you can do three things at once!

I used stamps from the masculine-themed set called Guy Greetings. The anchor in this set is one of my favorites for making guy cards. Here is a link to some other cards I made using this great set.

 

I created a patterned background by stamping the anchor several times. The Crumb Cake anchors where stamped full-strength, but I stamped off the Night of Navy and Tranquil Tide to dial back the intensity of the colors.

 

I added some texture to the card by using some burlap ribbon and also die-cutting a stitched circle for the focal image. I also stamped a lighter version of the anchor behind the sentiment for some added interest.

Global Design Project #GDP132: CASE Challenge

This week at the Global Design Project challenge blog we are CASEing this beautiful card by Stesha Bloodhart. 

  I had the pleasure of meeting Stesha this past November in Salt Lake City. She is a real sweetheart and her stamping projects are amazing. I don't know that I would change a thing about this card, but of course it would be silly to make an exact copy, so here is what I took from the inspiration card...lots of white space, the color pallet, flowers, and rhinestones.

Just like Stesha, I started with a top-folding Whisper White card base. As I was planning my card, I felt like the flower cluster would be lost on the card front, so I added three simple stripes of white cardstock to draw the eye to the flowers and help anchor it. Isn't it amazing how three little strips of white paper can make such a big impact on the final card!

 I stamped several flowers using the Cake Soiree stamp set (#145745) with Daffodil Delight and Soft Sky ink and leaves with Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz ink. The I used the coordinating dies from the Sweet Cake Framelits (#145617) to cut out the shapes.
