This week at the Global Design Project challenge blog we are CASEing this card by Shawn De Oliveira. This is a gorgeous and elegant card and it lends itself well to CASEing.
I wanted to capture the basic feel of Shawn's card, so I stayed with the layout and similar colors but I substituted stamped flowers for the die cut one and used a die cut sentiment instead of a stamped sentiment.
I stamped two flowers from the returning You've Got This stamp set using Archival Basic Black Ink on Canon XL 140 lb. watercolor paper. I used an Aqua Painter and Rich Razzleberry ink refill to color them. I used the new SU watercolor pencils to color the flower center in Daffodil Delight. After the flowers had dried completely, I fussy cut them and set then aside for later. Next, I stamped several leaf sprays from the Falling Flowers stamp set on a watercolor panel and colored those with Old Olive ink refill. I also stamped a few additional leaves and fussy cut those to use as filler when assembling the card front. I also added some Old Olive splatters to the card panel and let this all dry completely. While I was waiting, I die cut the word "friend" in Basic Black cardstock with the soon-to-be-released Lovely Words Thinlits.
I assembled the card front and added it to a card base also made with watercolor paper. I love how the card turned out, but I am always wondering "what if", so I decided to color a piece of watercolor paper with Rich Razzleberry ink refill and an Aqua Painter and then die cut the word "friend" again. I added it on top and slightly off-set from the black word die cut. Honestly, I couldn't decide with version of this card I liked best, so I decided to share them both.
You will probably notice that the flowers lift off the card. I curled them with a bone folder and attached the bottom of each flower at the base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. The watercolor paper is stiffer than regular card stock, so it I didn't need to add any dimensional adhesive (although you could if you wanted to).
Finally, I added some clear sequins (by Darice) to give a little touch of glimmer.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fun challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
