We are CASEing this adorable card by my talented friend, Louise Sharp this week at the Global Design Project challenge blog.
There are so many things that I love about Louise's card...the polka dots, the layout, the linen thread, and the flowers, that honestly, I couldn't bring myself to change it very much. I don't have the stamp set that she used on her card, so I decided to emphasize the flowers instead. I literally got this stamp set a few days ago. I have seen so many beautiful cards made with it, so I knew I had to see if I could use it on this card.
I tried to stamp the flowers with Classic ink, but I just didn't get the results I was looking for. My pads were too "inky" and the lines kept filling in. So I decided to make my own pigment ink by mixing Craft Stampin' Refill Ink with Classic Ink Refills to create customized colors that I could apply to the flower stamps with a sponge dauber.
I love that you can vary the intensity of the colors by changing the amount of ink refill you add to the pigment ink. I would definitely recommend stamping several flowers at the same time so that you don't waste the beautiful colors you create. I also recommend applying the ink leftovers to a scrap piece of cardstock so that you can punch some matching embellishments...the reinforced circle on the tag was done this way. As long as I was working with the same color family I didn't bother to clean my sponge dauber or stamps...but be sure to clean everything thoroughly before switching to a new color family.
I did a little ink sponging with white craft ink around the edges of the Soft Sky polka dot panel and added it to a Crumb Cake card base. Even though I used a variation of Daffodil Delight ink on the top flower, it was really closer to So Saffron when stamped, so the DSP strip I used near the bottom of the card is So Saffron. Next, I die cut the flowers and leaves with the coordinating Stylish Stems Framelits Dies and added them to a 2.5"x4" Whisper White tag. Finally, I used clear sequins purchased from the craft store to add just a tiny touch of bling to the tag.
