We are CASEing this wonderful card by my talented friend, Kylie Bertucci this week at the Global Design Project challenge blog.
When I look at Kylie's card I see a great layout, flowers, and a fall color pallet. I decided to focus on the layout and the flowers. I have spring fever and I really wanted a bright and vibrant color combo, so that is where I deviated from Kylie's card.
I used two different floral stamp sets on this card along with a greeting set. I don't think that the Birthday Blooms and You've Got This stamp sets were necessarily meant to go together, but they have a similar look, so it works. I stamped the flowers from both sets on Canson XL 140lb. Watercolor Paper* using StazOn Jet Black ink. I used a MISTI* stamp positioner so that I could stamp each image multiple times for a nice, clean, and dark image. It is really difficult to get a clean image on watercolor paper, so doing it this way works well.
The amazing thing about water coloring is that you can get several intensities of the same color just by changing the amount of water you use. I started by using a very watered down wash of Melon Mambo ink refill and an AquaPainter (filled with water). After that dried, I came back in and added a medium intensity of the same color where I wanted the shadows to be. Finally, I added the most intense color in the areas that I wanted to appear the most recessed (the deepest shadows). I did the same thing with the leaves using Bermuda Bay ink. Then I moved on the the background and did a wash of Crumb Cake ink using basically the same method. Finally, I added a little Crushed Curry ink to the flower centers. The most important thing to remember is that you need to make sure that each color is dry before moving on to the next color.
I did a little ink sponging around the edges of the panel with Early Espresso ink. Finally, I added the panel to a Bermuda Bay card base, tied on some Linen Thread, and added the sentiment from All Things Thanks.
We would love to have you play along with us this week. Be sure to check out what the other talented designers/players have created for this fun challenge at the Global Design Project Challenge Blog.
