Fancy Friday...Let's Celebrate!

Welcome to our Fancy Friday Blog Hop. Our theme this month is neutrals - use mostly white with one neutral color in the mix. Think snow, ice, winter, New Year's, champagne, 2017...basically January. :) You should have just arrived from visiting the very talented, Jennifer Frost. I love her style and she always creates the most amazing projects.

Sometimes we have friends over for New Year's eve and I thought this would be a festive way to send everyone home with a gift of delicious treats. I stamped a Petite Café Gift Bag with the large snowflake from the Frosted Medallions stamp set and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I used a stiff brush and splattered VersaMark ink refill and more white embossing powder and heat embossed that as well...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how this turned out.

That snowflake is gorgeous and I didn't really want to cover it, so I stamped the greeting from the set and then trimmed down the words before attaching them to the bag.

For a little extra sparkle and shine I added a few Fancy Frost Sequins and then tied on a fun Glitter Ribbon bow. To give the bow those beautiful curls, I wrapped the ribbon around a wooden dowel and just barely heat set it with a heat tool. Just be careful not to leave the heat tool in one place very long or you will have an ugly, melted mess. I suggest you practice on a small piece beforehand.

I also thought it would be fun to create coasters for the party. I stamped and embossed the snowflake on Crumb Cake cardstock and then used a Stitched Shapes Circle die to cut them out. FYI...this is apple juice with club soda...just in case you are wondering ;)

Artisan Design Team Blog Hop...Fond Farewells & New Beginnings

Welcome back to the final 2015-16 Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team blog hop. It has been a great year and I have been honored to work with such an amazing group of talented demonstrators from all around the world. For my last ADT blog hop I had hoped to go out with a bang, but instead, it turned out to be more like a soft and gentle whisper. I made this lovely card with the Frosted Medallions stamp set. This set sneaks up on you and before you know it you are in love! Be sure to check back tomorrow. I will have another beautiful project using this amazing stamp set on our December Fancy Friday Blog Hop.

This card started with a 3.75"x5.5" Crumb Cake cardstock panel. I stamped the large snowflake medallion with VersaMark ink and splattered the background with VersaMark refill using a stiff brush. Then I covered everything with white embossing powder and used a heat tool to set it. Next, I created a thread nest with some silver metallic thread and added a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper punched with the Flower Medallion punch. I stamped and fussy cut a second medallion and layered that on top as well. Finally, I stamped and embossed the sentiment and added it to the top. I mounted the panel on a top-folding Basic Black card base and added a few sequins.

This was my third time as an Artisan Award Winner/Artisan Design Team member and it has been such an blessing. However, I did not apply for the upcoming team. Being on the Artisan Design Team requires an extraordinary amount of time and dedication and I needed a break to focus on family.  There are so many talented demonstrators and I thought that it was only fair to give other stars a chance to shine. I have several friends on the new 2017 Artisan Design Team and I am excited to see what they have to share over the next year. You will probably recognize some of the team members, but there are also a lot of fresh, new faces. Be sure to show your support by leaving lots of uplifting comments on their blog hops beginning in January. In the mean time, I don't plan on going anywhere, so don't forget to stop by and say "hi" every once in a while! Thank you so much for your love and support!

Global Design Project #GDP066 Sketch Challenge

We have a sketch challenge this week at the Global Design Project challenge blog.

I typically don't make clean & simple cards so this sketch was a bit of a challenge for me. I just couldn't stand for the bottom right corner to be so bare, so I modified the layout and added a sentiment.

I started with a piece of 3-7/8"x5-1/8" piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the sentiment first in VersaMark ink and then heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  Next, I stamped the medallion with Real Red ink a couple of times using a MISTI tool and then stamped one last time with VersaMark ink. Then I heat embossed it with the Real Red Glitter Stampin' Emboss Powder. (TIP: Be careful not to overheat your embossing powder.) I just love the way the medallion sparkles and shines against the white cardstock. One of my favorite things about this card is that the medallion isn't really a "Christmas" set, yet by adding the red glitter, it works!

I tied on some gold twine and then mounted the panel on a top-folding card base made with Thick Whisper White cardstock. A mini glue dot helps to hold the center of the bow onto the center of the medallion. Finally, I added some sequins (by Darice) to lead your eye to the sentiment and add some balance to the layout. It is difficult to see all the bling on this card, but it is beautiful in real life...and it is relatively flat so it will be fairly easy to mail.

Global Design Project #GDP065 Color Challenge

We have a color challenge this week at the Global Design Project challenge blog. I think these colors are perfect for a vintage Christmas card.

When I first saw the Christmas Magic stamp set, I fell in love with this beautiful jingle bell. This set reminds me so much of the Christmas classic "Polar Express" with it's train, bell, and sentiments. However, I decided to go a slightly different direction and pair it with the Oh, What Fun stamp set. When you look at this card, can't you just hear "jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way...OH WHAT FUN it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh!" Please forgive my singing! ;)

I started with Shimmery White cardstock and stamped the sentiment first, then randomly stamped the bells in Archival Basic Black. Next, I gave  a light watercolor wash to the background with Crumb Cake ink refill using an AquaPainter. I let it dry completely before moving to the next step.  I also water-colored the bells with Crumb Cake ink but it took several layers to give them a spherical appearance.

Next, I tackled those pesky bows. Stampin' Up! has a new set of watercolor pencils coming out in January, but I don't have them yet...sigh! So, I had to cheat a little here and I used a Derwent Inktense ink pencil (Poppy Red #0400) along with a blender pen. I thought things looked a little to sparse, so I used an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker to flick splatters onto the background. Finally, I sponged the edges (of literally everything on this card) to complete the vintage feel. I mounted it on a Really Red cardstock panel and finally on a top-folding Crumb Cake card base covered with Candy Cane Lane DSP. I really wanted to keep this card easy to mail, so I resisted the temptation to add anything more...you gotta know that was difficult for me...LOL!
