Welcome back to another 2015-16 Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team blog hop. This week I am focusing on the Flourishing Phrases stamp set and coordinating Flourish Thinlits Dies. Every once in a while I like to use stamping techniques on my cards. Sometimes we tend to overlook some great possibilities when we take a stamp set at face value instead of stretching ourselves to see what other amazing things can be done. The Flourishing Phrases stamp set is a perfect example of a set then lends itself to several different techniques. This card is made with the trapped embossing technique.
I started with a 4.25"x5.5" panel of Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the flourishes with VersaMark ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. This "traps" the white areas and acts as a mask to prevent future layers of ink from sticking to the cardstock. Then I sponged some Mint Macaron ink over the entire card front and allowed it to dry completely before moving on. Next, I stamped the leaves with VersaMark and heat embossed those with clear embossing powder to trap the Mint Macaron ink. I repeated this process with Garden Green ink and then finally stamped a top layer of leaves with Cucumber Crush. After everything was complete, I placed some clean white copier paper over the card front and ironed off the embossing. This step is optional, but I love how it gives it a flat matte appearance.
I cut the card front about 1/2" from the left edge and removed about 1/4" so that the black cardstock would show through from behind. I also stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder and cut it out with the Circle Layer Dies. I cut a larger circle out of vellum cardstock and adhered everything in the lower right corner. I also die cut a flower with the coordinating Flourish Thinlits and added a metal rimmed pearl to the center. Finally, I added some rhinestones to the sentiment.
If you are already going through the hop, you should have just arrived here from visiting my very good friend, Cindy Schuster. When you leave here you will travel on to visit the very talented Inge Groot. You will be amazed at all the fabulous projects created by the Artisan Design Team so be sure to visit everyone on the team.
