We are focusing on Christmas this week over at the Global Design Project challenge blog and I have a really special project to share with you.
Our Sunday School class at church was asked to decorate a Christmas tree this year...but the ornaments have to be about the birth of Jesus and not secular. I remembered the big red metal flower I made a few years ago as one of my Artisan Design Team entries and decided to create something similar using the Delicate Ornaments Thinlits Dies. This poinsettia isn't nearly as big as the metal one, but it is still rather large (approx. 7 inches in diameter). It is difficult to capture the beauty of this ornament in a photograph, so you will just have to trust me...it is REALLY pretty. Here is a photo tutorial on how you can create one for yourself.
You will need some Red Foil Sheets (#139607), a Big Shot Die Cutting Machine (#113439), and the Delicate Ornanment Thinlits Dies (#139667). The new Precision Base Plates (#139684) are really helpful, too. If you don't have one, then use wax paper on top of your foil paper. To maximize the number of pieces you can get from a sheet of 12"x12" foil cardstock, cut them into 4"x12" strips. The dies will slide around on the foil, so you may want to use some washi tape to hold them them place when you run them through the Big Shot. I was able to get 15 petals per sheet to create a total of 3 flowers per package of foil cardstock.
You will need 10 petals and two circles (1-3/8") for each flower. Be sure to remove the excess pieces from the die cuts before assembling. Use a hot glue gun to put together two layers. The foil on the cardstock conducts heat, so be really careful not to burn yourself.
Use hot glue to put the two flowers together. Be sure to off-set the top layer to form a flower shape.
Add a large gold Metallic Foil Doily (#138392) to the center of the flower with Dimensionals (#104430) stacked four deep. For the sentiment background, use an Encore Gold Metallic ink pad (non-SU) to stamp the large ornament from the Embellished Ornaments stamp set (#139759). Be sure to "stamp off" the ink once before stamping on the cardstock. Use a heat tool to set the ink. Next, stamp the sentiment from Reason for the Season stamp st (#139730) in Real Red ink and then punch a circle with a 2" circle punch.
Isn't it just gorgeous! I can't wait to make several of these for our Christmas tree! You can get just about everything you need to create this for yourself over in my online store.
Now, we hope you will visit us over a Global Design Project. Come see the wonderful projects created by our Global Design Project design team and if you feel inspired, post your amazing projects there for everyone to enjoy.
