(Find out HERE how you can win some Blog Candy!)
Welcome back to day five of the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team blog hop. Just in case you aren't really sure what this is all about, let me give you a quick run down. Each year Stampin' Up! has a competition for their US/Canadian demonstrators. To enter you must submit five cards, three scrapbook pages, and two 3-dimensional items. The submissions are judged as a "package", not as individual projects. From those submissions Stampin' Up! narrows down the entries it receives to the top 20 finalists and displays their projects at convention. Then on Awards Night they announce the ten demonstrators they have selected as the design team for the next twelve months. I have such admiration for everyone who takes the time to enter this competition. Trust me, it is a lot of work...I'm talkin' TONS! Anyway, what you are seeing here are the projects submitted by those who went on to be selected for this year's Artisan Design Team.
One thing I should probably point out. Stampin' Up! realizes that not every style appeals to everybody, so they try to choose team members with a wide variety of styles. When I created my projects, I tried to keep this in mind. That is why I have some trendy projects as well as some traditional ones like this one.
I was inspired by a couple of projects that I had seen on Pinterest to create a decorated spool... only I made mine with paper. I started with a paper tube and cut chipboard circles for the top and bottom. I attached everything with a hot melt glue gun and then started the decorating process. The most difficult thing was creating the flowers. I wanted a shabby feel, so I used soft colors. Some of the work was already done for me with the Artisan Embellishment Kit. The smaller white/pink roses were included in the kit and helped fill in the gaps. I twisted the wire stems around a wooden skewer to add some interest. Of course, you can't have shabby without sponging the edges of practically everything with a little bit of Early Espresso ink.
