Flocked Christmas Baskets & Blooms

Have you seen the beautiful new Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP in the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog? Some of the paper in this beautiful new set are flocked. Oh my, it is so beautiful! I used my Baskets and Blooms die and cut a basket using some of this gorgeous paper...and guess what...I ended up with a gorgeous basket. Funny how that works.

For the flower I used a different sheet from the same collection. You can see a wonderful tutorial on making these pretty fan fold flower here. I stamped the greeting from the new "Four the Holidays" stamp set also in the new holiday mini catalog. You can purchase everything for this project beginning on September 1st.

Convention Swap Card

This is the card I made for convention swaps. To create the background I used a Chocolate Chip ink pad and CS and used the direct to paper technique. Practically everything else is made with either a sizzlet or a punch. If you think that little branch looks realistic then you would be right. I scavenged around the yard to find little sticks and attached them to the card using Tombow Multi-purpose adhesive.

This past weekend I spent in WV attending my high school reunion and catching up with a lot of former classmates. I really had a great time and found out that many of them had heard about my blog and have checked it out...so a big "HI" to all of you.

Final Artisan Award Entry

We have finally made it to the end of my Artisan Award entries. This photo is of my son when he was just a baby. I can't believe that he is already twelve. It really is true that one day you turn around and they are all grown up. It may be a little difficult to see what I think is the best part of this layout. I typed the journaling, but then stamped the missing words using the Warm Words stamp set. I used my Big Shot and the Serif Essentials alphabet dies to create the word BABY using raw chipboard covered with Chocolate Chip CS.

My Favorite Scrapbook Page!

I don't do much scrapbooking, so I was surprised at how much I loved putting together this 12x12 page of my great niece as one of my Artisan Award entries. I just cut strips of Tea Party DSP and then used my sewing machine to zigzag stitch the strips together. I traced the big chipboard flower from On Board Batch of Blooms onto Pretty in Pink CS and then stitched around that too. I used craft ink to color the chipboard letters from On Board Timeless Type & Lots of Letters. The fence is just made from CS strips and dimensionals. I used my SU Birds & Blooms sizzlets for the flowers. I couldn't have been more pleased with the end result, but alas, it is gone forever...so thankfully I have this photo. Maybe one day I will have the energy to recreate it.

What is Memento Mall?

I recently received the question "What is Memento Mall?" Sometimes I forget that not everyone knows, so I thought I would take a minute to explain.

Each year at SU Convention they have a big room set up as a shop where you can purchase items unique to SU that you can’t buy any other time or place. In a way, it is a big incentive to attend convention. Most of the merchandise feature SU logo, in-colors, or artwork. In the past there were no limits, so the people who got there first would sometimes buy several of the most popular items for their down line and everyone else was just out of luck. The lines are always terribly long, but this is where you get to know new people and do some fantastic swapping.

Fortunately, the past few years they have placed limits on how much you could purchase until the last day of convention. Then, in order to keep from getting stuck with merchandise, they lift the limits and it is a free-for-all. This year some of the items in MM included: clothing (shirt and a beautiful emboridered zip-up hoodie), Workshop WOW DVD, convention charms, nail files/kits, make-up compact, shopping bags, metal tins, rubic cubes with the SU in-colors, and I am sure some things I am forgetting to mention. On the second day they also offered a cute little SU Build-a-Bear that had on an adorable SU apron and one of it’s paws had Stampin' Up! embroidered on it. It also included a stamp that said “Life without Stamps is Unbearable" or something close to that.

Halloween Witches Hat Treat Box

I was very flattered when I went to Heather Summers blog today only to see a CASE of my other 3D Artisan Award entry. The way it was displayed at convention made it difficult to get a good look, so since mine was a little different than the one Heather designed, I thought would give you the details.

My box is a standard triangle box with a little cardstock flap added for the brim. I started with a piece of Basic Black CS that measured 4 1/4" x 11". I used the full sheets of the sticky tape to punch stars and then added glitter. For the buckle I punched out a square from some Lovely Lilac CS and then punched again with the Curly Label punch. I used two-way glue to add the purple glitter. Here is a side view that may help you understand exactly what I did.
